Permission-led infrastructure

Sources & Permissions

The Canadian Legal Archive (CLARCH) does not treat public availability as blanket permission. Each authority, material category, technical route, and condition is recorded separately before activation.

What a clear answer resolves

Six questions turn uncertainty into enforceable boundaries.

USE

Storage, indexing, excerpts, full text, AI processing, authenticated display, printing, downloading, and commercial use.

MATERIAL

Current and historical legislation, regulations, Gazettes, decisions, tribunals, corrections, and withdrawn records.

ROUTE

Official websites, feeds, APIs, bulk files, rate limits, paper sources, and other sanctioned acquisition methods.

NOTICE

Attribution, unofficial-version language, currency warnings, copyright text, language treatment, and links.

CHANGE

Updates, corrections, withdrawals, publication bans, de-indexing, and takedown procedures.

AUTHORITY

The organization empowered to decide and any separate decision-maker required for part of the material.

Our commitment

Conditions become release gates, not fine print.

01

Exact scope

A reply applies only to the organization, materials, uses, and technical route it actually covers.

02

Visible provenance

Material remains connected to its responsible authority, official source, date, and required notices.

03

Responsive correction

Defined correction, withdrawal, and contact routes are built into the operating model.
